Tom Boylan’s Relatives, Friends Looking for Clues

MONTROSE – Friends and relatives of Tom Boylan are putting up fliers all over Montrose this week, trying to find some clue about the missing 82-year-old man.

Boylan was last seen by a neighbor when he left his driveway about 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 20, said Cmdr. Gene Lillard of the Montrose Police.

Boylan lived alone and had a heart condition, Lillard said. His disappearance was reported by family members two days after he disappeared.

Described as between 5-feet-7 and 5-feet-10 inches tall, Thomas Joseph Boylan weighs about 135 pounds and has gray hair and brown eyes, according to the flier. He wore wire-rimmed glasses with a black cotton strap, and almost always wore suspenders, Lillard said.

Boylan was last seen driving a 1990 tri-colored Chevrolet Suburban with the Colorado license plate number 540 PCP, Lillard said. The vehicle is distinctive because of the paint job, and also has a roof rack and chrome skull hood ornament.

Reports that Boylan might have had some age-related mental issues turned out to be untrue, Lillard said. The original flier also stated Boylan might be in the company of a Hispanic woman, but that is also untrue, he added.

A retired plumber, Boylan is a long-time resident of Montrose, Lillard said, and lives on South Pythian Street.

“I’ve known him ever since I’ve been here, for 34 years,” he said, and Boylan was known “as a pretty sharp guy with a strong wit.”

There’s no evidence to warrant search party, Lillard said, and foul play is not suspected.

In addition to all the fliers going up, Boylan’s image and information have been entered into nationwide databases, including Silver Alert, an offshoot of Amber Alert, the alert system for missing children. His information has also been placed on databases of the National Crime Information Center and the Colorado Crime Information Center, Lillard.

Police have also looked for activity on Boylan’s credit cards, but so far no activity has shown up, he said.

Foul play is not suspected, Lillard said, but Boylan’s children and friends are concerned about his welfare.

Knowing Boylan, he would be embarrassed about all the fuss, Lillard said, but police are playing it safe.

“We are truly concerned about his well-being. It’s not normal to be gone as long as he has been,” he said. “We’re hoping he’s all right and we’re trying to help out the family.”

Anyone with information about Boylan should call the Montrose Police at 970/525-5200 or their local law enforcement agency.
