Family Was Camping for WeekendOURAY – A six-week-old baby girl, whose lifeless body was discovered by her parents while camping near Ouray, died of natural causes, according to autopsy reports.
Ouray County Sheriff "Junior" Mattivi said the child’s parents reported she was unresponsive at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
Investigator Joel Burk of the Ouray Sheriff’s Office said the baby’s parents are John and Jessica Corn of Montrose. The baby was also named Jessica.
Burk said Dr. Michael Benziger conducted an autopsy and determined that the baby had died of natural causes, or what used to be called sudden infant death syndrome.
“It was an otherwise healthy baby with no sickness, no trauma or anything abnormal found,” Burk said. “Right now it’s been ruled death by natural causes.”
Mattivi said the family had been camping at Thistledown campground, about three miles south of Ouray on Camp Bird Road.
