NTSB to Investigate Small Plane Accident

MONTROSE – The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate a small plane accident that occurred Monday afternoon at about 4 p.m., according to a report by Montrose County. No injuries were reported and no other details were available.

A spokesman for the NTSB in Denver said the accident involving in a Piper Cub, call numbers N-41427, had an accident at the Montrose airport. The accident will be investigated by Michael Everett of the Denver NTSB office, according to NTSB senior air investigator Arnold Scott. Everett has not returned calls.

Former Miss America to Talk About Child Sex Abuse

To raise community awareness about incest and child abuse, Marilyn Van Derbur, the former Miss America from Colorado, will speak about her experience as an incest survivor and her book, Miss America By Day.

Van Derbur will speak at the Bill Heddles Recreation Center conference room in Delta on April 28 from noon to 1 p.m. Following her presentation, she will talk with individual audience members.

The event is free, but seating is limited. For more information, call event sponsors, the Dolphin House Child Advocacy Center, at 240-8655.

Health Care Scholarships Offered

The San Juan Healthcare Foundation and the Montrose Medical Alliance are accepting applications for scholarship awards for training in the health sciences field.

Applicants of any age wishing to pursue training in a health related field is eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants from the Montrose area who intend to return to this area to use their skills. The scholarship is open to any high school graduate, nurse, medical student, therapist, hospital employee, or anyone anticipating health sciences training.

Applications will be taken through May 8, and the recipient will be announced on May 26. The selection of the winner will be made by the San Juan Healthcare Foundation Board.
