Just last week the Telluride Bluegrass Festival announced the preliminary lineup for the 36th annual festival. Among the lineup, Todd Snider, a seasoned songwriter, singer and storyteller with a strong Colorado fan base.

Before he performs on the Telluride Town Park stage, Snider will perform on the Sheridan Opera House stage. The Sheridan Arts Foundation has him on the calendar for Saturday, January 31st. Snider is making this stop between Boulder and Sante Fe performances.

Snider is touring with his latest album, Peace Queer, released October 14, 2008. On the album, listeners hear Snider assisted by Patty Griffin, Kevn Kinney, Don Heron, Doug Lancio, Will Kimbrough and other luminaries. It’s a record of brevity, humor and hope. The album’s cover, which depicts Snider being held at gunpoint by a shirtless hippie, nods to the violence that is at the heart of all peaceful endeavors.

In describing Snider’s sound, Kris Kristofferson said, "Todd Snider is a true songwriter, with the heart and humor of John Prine, the wild unpredictability of Roger Miller, and a fresh, original spirit and freedom of imagination that's absolutely his own." For years, Snider has been a satirist, class cutup and the rare artist who understands and celebrates the connections between the Stones, Dylan, Bill Hicks, John Prine, Hunter S. Thompson and Randy Newman. There’s an edge to what he’s done over several albums and his wildly popular live performances hone that edge.

Yonder fans may remember Todd Snider from Labor Day Weekend of 2007, when he kicked off the Yonder Mountain String Band concert at Red Rocks. And, now he’ll join them at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

This Sheridan Opera House performance will open with special guest Keith Sykes, also a veteran of the music industry, on Saturday, January 31st. This is a seated show. Showtime is 8:00pm with doors and box office opening at 7:30pm. Tickets go for $25 and $30.
