Pilot Said to Be a Doctor From Montrose and Was Alone in the Plane

MONTROSE – A local pilot cheated death Wednesday morning when his small plane crash-landed on a residential street not far from the Montrose airport.

Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn said he had heard, but had not confirmed, that the pilot, who was alone in the aircraft, was taken to Montrose Memorial Hospital with facial injuries. He said he believed the pilot was a local physician.

“We don’t know all the issues yet,” he said.

No one else was injured and the only property damage was to some trees in the area where the plane came down about 11:30 a.m., on North Park Avenue near North Seventh Street.

According to the Denver Post, Montrose Fire Chief Bob Pistor said there was no fire when the plane landed and that it was on an approach path to the airport, just a mile or so north of the crash site.

Pistor said the plane, a Cessna, lost power and hit a tree on the way down.
