OURAY – Weehawken Creative Arts is pleased to offer a Mild Herb Walk with Certified Clinical Herbalist, Melanie Kent on Tuesday, July 14. Students are sure to enjoy all aspects of the workshop, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon.

Although beginning at around 11,000 feet in elevation, the "mild" herb walk will take place on only one-to-two miles of flat terrain. Students will check out the wildflowers in the high country off of Red Mountain Pass, examining plants as they meander around a relatively low angle trail. There will be many opportunities to rest, relax and soak in new information while taking in spectacular views.

A San Juan Mountains native, Kent resides in neighboring Ophir, where she maintains her passion for the outdoors and its abundance of native plants. She attended the Rocky Mountain Center of Botanical Studies in Boulder, graduating in 1999 as a Certified Clinical Herbalist.

Kent is one of Weehawken's most-popular instructors and has an impressive background of teaching and leading herb walks for multiple regional organizations. Her casual, friendly style provides an easy atmosphere for gaining knowledge about herbs and native plants.

The cost for the workshop is $36 for WCA members and $40 for non-members. More information, a supply list and online registration are available at www.weehawkenarts.org, or call 318-0150.
