Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation Raises More Than $40,000
RIDGWAY – The Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation raised more than $40,000 at its 12th annual live and silent auction on Oct. 17.
“This is a record amount,” said organizer Stephanie Wallin. “Once again, we are overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm of Ouray County residents and businesses. We are so fortunate to be in a community that garners this type of support even during these difficult economic times.”
Top-selling items included Sue Hillhouse’s famous pies, which garnered a $1,700 bid; a cruiser bike from Peak-to-Peak for $1,600; and many other popular auction items. This year’s ring toss, sponsored by Montrose’s The Liquor Store and Ouray Liquor (three chances to win a bottle of wine for $10), raised an additional $1,400.
Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation is a local organization dedicated to providing opportunities for Ouray County’s youth. The organization aims to involve the Ouray County community in developing resources to enrich our students' lives and broaden their educational experiences.
Founded in 1992, they have raised funds for such activities as arts and music programs, athletic events, and travel opportunities, including an annual trip to Washington, D.C., where students observe government in action. For more information about Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation, visit
