OURAY – A Colorado Department of Transportation project to improve State Highway 62 and U.S. Highway 550 in Ouray County has begun. The project area includes U.S. 550 at Ridgway (through the junction with SH 62, milepost 103.4 to 105) and SH 62, from Ridgway west over Dallas Divide to just east of Placerville (milepost 22-to 0.5). Work on the project has a scheduled completion date of Oct. 2.
The construction of acceleration/deceleration lanes on U.S 550 north or Ridgway at Mill Street (CR 10) is complete. Crews will complete the roadway resurfacing on SH 62 by Sept. 15 and will be out doing final shoulder work and pavement striping, as well as final project cleanup until Oct. 1.
Work hours are Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.-7 p.m., with no work on holidays or weekends. Motorists will encounter various single-lane closures during project work hours.
A wide-load restriction remains in effect for SH 62 for loads 12 feet wide and over, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Motorists should expect some travel delays, lasting approximately 10 minutes. All business accesses will be maintained, but may be temporarily altered.
CDOT and APC Southern Construction greatly appreciate patience and cooperation while driving through the work zone.
